Chair Pockets

For those of you who are familiar with the Wilson Reading System, you know what there is A LOT of little "stuff" the kids need to have. This year I made these little chair pockets so that they have the accountability of keeping up with their own things. I like the wide pockets because they are big enough to fit the magnetic journal, reader, dry erase board, pointer, marker, and rules notebook. An added bonus is that it looks tidy, and I get coveted shelf space back!

I went in today to put some finishing touches on the room. For calendar time I decided to create a calendar that incorporates a pattern and prediction. Instead of having all of the days set up on the calendar at the beginning of the month, students have to use patterning skills to add the picture for today. We are starting with the AB pattern for August, and will use more complex patterns as the year progresses. The days have velcro on the back, and the students determine the pattern and predict what the picture will be for the day. This can also be differentiated by asking students what the picture will be a week from today, five days from today etc. I'm also going to use birthday cards, so students will have to predict what picture would be on the calendar for their birthday.
